One Month Review

So, a month today I started the internship program I’m currently in and I’m still enjoying it. The first week everything was very new, it was orientation style stuff so basic and fun. The last three weeks have been very busy.

We had intensive theology classes seven times a week (twice on both monday and tuesday) for three weeks. That’s busy. The first week I felt incredibly overwhelmed. It was certainly interesting but there was so very very much to learn and some of it I felt like I knew but there were always aspects that were new. On the Friday we had an oral presentation which is just about my least favourite thing on planet earth to do. Like give me a ten page essay, just don’t ask me to speak on something for fifteen minutes in front of a group of people (I mean, it’s irrational, I know the teacher and my three classmates are all my friends but hey, brains! you know?!)

The second week I felt better about class. My brain had started kicking into gear (I hadn’t been to school in like five months okay!) and I enjoyed the second week much more. That weekend we went to The Pas which was exciting and sometimes nerve-racking and it was up there we saw our first snowfall of the season (still no snow on the ground over here in Winnipeg! Gorgeous long autumn!).

Last week we we given an assignment and spent all of our class time working on that. It was going to be due that Friday but our teacher agreed that that was too little time and gave us an extension til yesterday for which we were all very grateful! I could have probably managed my time better though and there was a bit of a rush at the end there (I appear to have had a minor and temporary mental breakdown, as shown last night to the poor people following my twitter)

However I managed to finish the project by the due date!

I have also been living out of my house (during the week) for a month and sharing a room with a friend (I haven’t shared a room since I was about eleven) so it’s been a lot of changes! I have not found I’ve really gotten homesick (except when my mum was unwell) but I do go to school at my parents’ workplace, can text either of them whenever, and see them every weekend so I’m okay! Having a roommate is fun! I’ve been friends with Desi since grade seven but we’ve known each other since we were about seven years old so it wasn’t like I had to “get to know the new roommate” it was just getting to “know” her in a new environment. It’s been fun though, I think it’s been working out and we’re having fun!

We’re both a bit introverted (Des a bit more so than I but we work it out) so we don’t bother each other because we both need that recharge time after a long day. Sometimes I feel like I can be annoying and I probably can be, but I’m working on it! I’m just a bit silly or grouchy or thoughtless sometimes. (Desi, if you’re reading this, I’m working on it! Remind me that I’m working on it if need be!)

The couple that we’re staying with are also super nice! The wife was my grade two teacher so that’s kind of fun, and the husband taught some Bible classes at my school in Jr and Sr high. (grade 7-12 time zone). I’ve also known them both all my life from our church so I’m very comfortable around them but its been fun seeing them in their home environment and how they joke around with each other, or interact with their (adorable) grandkids. It’s been great!

I’m looking forward to this month, we have a more varied schedule, still every week day but a wider variety of things that we’re doing. Today we served by providing child care for the church’s “Mum’s Group” and playing with the kids and teaching a lesson we created for the morning. Tomorrow we’ll be volunteering in my old school (which is connected to my church) so that’ll be fun! I’m excited to see what they’ll have us doing! We’re also going through John Piper’s “The Blazing Cantre” DVD series which has been super interesting so far! AND we’re helping with youth group all this month with Friday night events and on Sunday mornings! Gonna be a gooooooood month!

Internship so far: 9/10 Rating increasing each week. Would recommend.

Talk to you tomorrow!
