Today for acting class (Mondays seem to have just become an acting class update day but ehhhhhh dats cool ;D) we did auditions! The Directing class puts on some short plays each semester and for part of our class we attended their open auditions for the casting of their plays.
Now I’ve been to one legit audition before (see “On Having Regrets” here) for Over the Rainbow, a kind of musical reality tv elimination show (the aim is to cast a lead for the Andrew Llyod Webber show that it relates to. This one was for the role of Dorothy in The Wizard of Oz, but they’ve also used it to cast for Oliver!, Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dream Coat, The Sound of Music, and I think possibly a few more). Anyway the audition I went to for that was a prescreening audition to see who got to do the recorded-for-tv auditions. I didn’t. But dats cool, as I said in the post then:
But we were talking about todays auditions at school. These were a different audition to that (was my point). We started off the evening with group auditions, we did a variety of acting activities and games and then after the break, those who were interested in actually being a part of one of the productions could stay and might be asked to do a cold read by one of the directors. (a really rough definition of a cold read for those who don’t know is you’re given a script for the first time, maybe given a couple minutes to read it over, then asked to read/act it for the director)
I decided to come back and was asked by one of the directors to do a cold read so that was fun! I think it went well, I felt good about it, we got some good laughs from the audience which is a good sign! We hear back within the next week so I’ll let you know if anything comes of it… (I hope it does, they all sound like pretty fun plays!)
Anywho, that’s my life, how’s yours?
